So, DCSS is not an easy game by any means. A lot of experienced players will say that Air Elementalists have an easy early game, though. The reason for this is that AEs have two powerful charm spells in their book on that basically prevent early deaths. With Swiftness you can outrun anything that can kill you in melee, and Repel Missiles will negate most ranged opponents. This commentated walkthrough plays an HEAE from the start of the game to D7 when you reach Ecumenical Temple.
